Q: Why should I consider purchasing the FlipKey Vacation Rental Protection Plan?
A: Unforeseen events occur and plans change. The most common reason people need
to use this plan is that they want their money back after having to cancel or interrupt
their trips for covered reasons. The majority of the time this is due to an illness of the
travelers or immediate family member, but can also be an injury, death in the family, or
one of the following:
Please see the Plan Description for more details.
But the plan provides more than reimbursement of penalties for cancellation and
interruption. It also provides coverage for expenses relating to:
The plan also includes 24/7 worldwide emergency assistance, for help anywhere, anytime.
A: Yes! The coverages under the Trip Cancellation, Interruption & Travel Delay Insurance extend to the airfare booked to join or depart your vacation if you include the airfare cost when you are getting your plan cost quote.
Q: Who is an "Immediate Family" member under the Insurance?
A: The Immediate Family member definition is quite broad. It's not just family members who reside with you, such as spouse, domestic partner and children. It also includes grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews among others. Please refer to the Definitions section of the Plan Description for a full listing.
Q: What if I am delayed and miss the start of my trip?
A: If you miss the departure of your trip due to airline delay or other
specified, covered reasons, the insurance will reimburse you up to $500 ($250/day) per
person ($2,000 per rental reservation) for any unused travel arrangements and/or out-of-
pocket expenses such as accommodation and transportation expenses to catch up to
the trip (or to return home if you are delayed at the end of your trip).
If your covered delay causes you to miss 50% or more of your trip, you have coverage
under the Trip Cancellation and Interruption benefit and can receive reimbursement up
to the total cost of your trip.
Q: If I am sick or injured while on my vacation, will my medical expenses be
reimbursable?
A: Yes, the plan reimburses up to $10,000 per person ($40,000 per reservation) for
covered medical treatments and expenses such as doctor visits, medicines, hospital
stays and ambulance services. The plan will pay from first dollar if your health insurance
doesn't cover you at your destination or if you don't have health insurance. If your
health insurance does cover you, the plan will pick up any co-insurance and/or
deductibles so you aren't out of pocket.
The Vacation Rental Protection Plan also includes up to $25,000 per person ($100,000
per rental reservations) of coverage for emergency medical transportation in the event
of a medical emergency. These are arranged and pre-paid for you by the assistance
company (On Call International).
Q: What if I go one place and my bags go another?
A: The plan reimburses up to $250 per person ($1,000 per rental reservation) if your bags are lost, stolen or damaged and up to $100 per person ($400 per rental reservation) if your bags are delayed by a Common Carrier (such as an airline or bus) for 24+ hours.
Q: How will I know that I am covered?
A: When you enroll online, Aon Berkely will email you a confirmation of coverage within moments of completing the online enrollment process.
A: Yes. As with most insurance, benefits are provided for covered reasons, with some
limitations and restrictions. In order to offer these benefits at a reasonable cost and
without requiring medical exams or questionnaires, certain exclusions, including "pre-existing"
condition exclusion, do apply.
The good news is that the Pre-Existing Condition exclusion will be WAIVED (meaning the
exclusion is not applicable) if you purchase the insurance within 21 days of your initial
trip payment.
Q: What do I do if I have a claim?
A: If you must cancel your vacation, and we hope you don't, please contact your rental
manager or rental owner first.
You can file a claim for Trip Cancellation or for any other type of claim with Aon Berkely
at www.travelclaim.com or call us at 866.808.7385. We'll send you the appropriate
claim form which must be completed by you and the attending physician, if applicable.
